The couch that found a job anyway
Mary’s cabin got a couch with one missing accessory: a tape measure. Nobody measured before bringing it home, and the couch would not fit. Halloween rescued the purchase for one evening—it turned out to be a perfect seat for movie night.
Now comes the harder part: deciding what to do with it. The seating arrangement was a success; the long-term furniture plan is still accepting suggestions.

The trench beside Mary's garden shed is filled, and she can reach the water spigot again without having to navigate an open hole. The electric, water and network lines are finished and buried—a practical milestone in making the shed and its surroundings easier to use.
Joe has been helping Mary around the shed, where the ground beside the building has been graded. Grass seed will wait until spring. Justin has also made a start on the mini-split for heating and cooling: he got it out of the box. The packaging is off; the installation is still waiting for its big moment.
Justin’s help extended into the trench work and garden planting, too. On October 26, he and Mary described spending about an hour and a half digging holes and moving trees so she could finish planting before the ground freezes. Between that preparation and the buried utilities, there is progress to show even while other jobs remain on the list.

Mary found another way to describe the autumn transition while looking at the trees: their changing colors were like a change of wardrobe, eventually giving way to a winter coat. It was a gentle image alongside the more practical work of getting the garden ready.
Her conversations also returned to kindness. In one discussion about honesty, she reminded viewers that nobody gets everything right every day, and that kindness includes how we treat ourselves. Later in the week, she considered kindness alongside boundaries and making time for something restorative. The thought carried across those conversations without needing a perfect day or a finished to-do list to accompany it.
The herd moves when Nellie does
Out with the goats, getting everyone moving took more than one attempt. Mary's first effort to lead the herd out brought only Frosty. Later, Nellie led the way, and the goats finally ran toward the pasture with Mary following.

She recalled time spent with Laney and her babies. Alongside the shed work and winter preparations, those familiar animals supplied the week's less predictable moments.
